This article examines the functional-semantic and pragmatic characteristics of discourse markers used in English and Uzbek online news discourse from a comparative perspective. The study employs modern corpus linguistics and discourse analysis methods to investigate materials from English and Uzbek online media platforms. Discourse markers are interpreted as linguistic tools that ensure textual coherence, express communicative intentions, reveal the author‘s stance, and influence the audience pragmatically. The findings demonstrate that English online news discourse predominantly utilizes discourse markers that emphasize formality, conciseness, and logical cohesion, whereas Uzbek online news discourse frequently employs emotionally expressive and culturally specific pragmatic markers.
