INTEGRATING PRAGMATICS AND CONTEXT IN TRANSLATION STUDIES: SPEECH ACTS, POLITENESS, AND COMMUNICATIVE EQUIVALENCE ACROSS CULTURES (246-248-bet)
Annotatsiya
This paper explores the role of pragmatics and context in translation, emphasizing how meaning extends beyond linguistic forms into situational and cultural dimensions. Translators often encounter challenges when transferring speech acts, politeness strategies, and implicit messages across languages. The study examines how pragmatic equivalence - achieving the same communicative effect in the target language - can be maintained by analyzing context, speaker intention, and social norms. By applying principles of pragmatic theory, translators can produce more accurate and culturally appropriate translations that preserve the intended illocutionary force and interpersonal meaning of the source text.
