MODERN TRENDS IN LANGUAGE EDUCATION AND THE ROLE OF DISCOURSE (619-622-bet)
Annotatsiya
This article explores the major trends in modern language education through the lens of discourse theory. It argues that recent pedagogical innovations-from communicative and task-based learning to technology-enhanced and multilingual approaches-reflect a shift from teaching isolated grammatical structures to developing discourse competence. Language is viewed as social action: a means of constructing meaning, identity, and relationships within authentic communicative contexts. The paper examines how approaches such as CLIL, blended learning, and adaptive digital platforms integrate discourse principles by emphasizing interaction, context, and cultural awareness. It also highlights the growing importance of intercultural competence and translanguaging as essential dimensions of modern communicative practice. The study concludes that effective language education today is inherently discourse-oriented, aiming to prepare learners for meaningful participation in a multilingual and globalized world.
